“Wa Ba Mi Gbe,” performed by Oluwalonibisi, is the Yoruba adaptation of the classic English hymn “Abide with Me,” written by Henry Francis Lyte in 1847. Lyte, a Scottish Anglican cleric, composed this poignant hymn as he was nearing the end of his life due to tuberculosis. The hymn is a heartfelt plea for God’s presence and comfort through all stages of life, especially in the face of death. It is traditionally set to the tune “Eventide,” composed by William Henry Monk.
Oluwalonibisi, a renowned Nigerian gospel artist and a praise/worship leader at The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) Abeokuta, has been spreading the gospel through songs for over 13 years. His discography includes the albums “Come To Me”, “Hymns to Him”, and “Yoruba Hymn Classic”.
