“Oloorun Mi Iwo Ni Ma Sin (Part 2)” by Madam Comfort Omoge stands as a continuation of the legacy created by this Nigerian music legend, hailed as the queen and chief exponent of Asiko music.
Comfort Omoge was a remarkable figure in preserving and promoting traditional African folklore music, specifically the Ikale people’s cultural heritage in the Western Ondo State of Nigeria. With her 15-17 member band, Aboba Asiko, she skillfully blended traditional percussive instruments with modern interpretations of folk songs.
The album “Orogen rogen” (1976) marked her entry into the music scene, while “Irore re yi ran” (1980) reflected her ability to infuse Christian teachings into traditional compositions. Married to the traditional ruler of Igbodigo, Comfort Omoge’s contributions to Asiko music remain influential, and her passing in 1999 marked the end of an era.
