Ije Ego” is a classic Igbo highlife song by the legendary musician Paulson Kalu. In the Igbo language, “Ije Ego” means “journey of wealth,” a concept that delves into the challenging and arduous path one must take to achieve financial success. Through his music, Paulson Kalu poignantly captures the essence of this journey, reflecting on the perseverance, hard work, and resilience required to attain wealth.

Paulson Kalu, also known as Paulson Kalu – Afrikhanah, hails from Akanu Ohafia in Abia State, Nigeria. His illustrious music career began with the Martin Brothers Dance Band and continued with notable stints in Erasmus Jenewari’s band and Stephen Osadebe‘s band, where Osadebe became his mentor. Kalu later founded the Africana Dance Band in Onitsha, gaining fame for his philosophical and thought-provoking Igbo  highlife songs.
