Legendary highlife musician Bright Chimezie, known for his genre-bending “Zigima Sound,” released this song titled “Because Of English.” This Abia State native, born on October 1st, 1960, is a veteran in the Igbo highlife industry.

“Because of English” is yet another remarkable addition to Chimezie’s illustrious discography. In this song, Bright Chimezie recounts how he was punished and disciplined by his teacher because he could not speak English. Bright Chimezie is a Pan-African, and thus he uses this song to advocate for solidarity and cultural pride of African languages.
