Renowned Edo Highlife musician, Pa Monday Edo, has taken legal action against up-and-coming Nigerian singer, Shallipopi, for copyright infringement. Court documents surfaced online, revealing that Pa Monday Edo has filed a lawsuit against Shallipopi, accusing him of using his sound, stems, and lyrics without proper authorization.

The lawsuit centers on Shallipopi’s latest track, “Obapluto,” where the young Afro-fusion artist allegedly incorporated elements from Pa Monday’s original work without seeking permission. Pa Monday Edo has demanded restitution and compensation amounting to N200 million for the unauthorized use of his intellectual property.

In addition to the monetary claim, Pa Monday Edo has requested Shallipopi to disclose all earnings generated from the infringing song within seven days. Furthermore, he has proposed a profit-sharing arrangement of 70-30%, with the majority going to the veteran Highlife singer and the remaining to Shallipopi for any future profits derived from the disputed track.

As part of the legal demands, Pa Monday Edo also seeks a public apology from Shallipopi. This apology is to be published in two reputable newspapers and shared across the singer’s social media platforms, acknowledging the infringement and expressing regret for the unauthorized use of Pa Monday’s music.

The case is set to unfold in the Edo state high court, where the parties involved will have the opportunity to present their arguments and evidence. As the matter progresses, the music industry and fans alike will be closely following this legal battle between the seasoned Highlife veteran, Pa Monday Edo, and the emerging Afro-fusion artist, Shallipopi.
